With this noble verse in mind, the Swahid Peoli Phukan College, a pioneer in higher education was established in the year 1970, as a result of the dedicated endeavour of handful of education loving people. The college was originally established in a temporary site in Michamara Kumargaon VGR. After subsequent modification and improvement, the college now stands proudly in its peaceful site at Namti Chariali, situated in the southern part of the greater Sivasagar District. Starting with just 13 students in 1970 at the outset, the college has now developed into a much larger educational institute. Owing to the splendid efforts of the Founder Principal of the college, Sri Durgadhar Bora and its teachers, namely, Sri Soaram Boruah, Sri Kumud Ch. Borgohain, Sri Nila Kt. Mudoi, Sri Muhini Kr. Mahanta, Sri Surendranath Borgohain, Sri Rajani Kanta Neog and Sri Boloram Bora, the college has now become a full-fledged educational institution. The college offers enough opportunities for the exhibition as well as moulding of one’s talent in educational, co-curricular and extra-curricular aspects. The college offers ample room for the growth of interaction among the students to give an impetus to the rise of the spirit of fraternity and social we being among the students. Keeping the call of the age in mind, the college also encourages sports and other extra-curricular activities besides the general academic pursuits. The college is permanently affiliated to the Dibrugarh University and has also been registered with University Grants, Commission under section 2F and 12B in 1988. The college has always maintained a good reputation regarding its tradition of good results. In 2005, Miss Junmoni Begum (Geography Major) was adjudged as the Best Graduate among the successful students with Major in different subjects under Dibrugarh University in TDC Part III (1+1+1) Examination, 2005. Miss Ankita Kalita scored highest mark in the subject of History in the HS Final examination, 2006, under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council among all successful candidates. |
